9 killed, 56 injured in separate road crashes

At least nine people were killed and 56 others injured in separate road accidents in Joypurhat, Narayanganj, Narail, Sirajganj and Tangail districts on Friday. In Joypurhat, a policeman was killed and another injured as a battery-run auto-rickshaw hit their motorcycle at Harendra village in Panchbibi Upazila on Friday afternoon. The dead is constable Akter Hossain, son of late Alif Uddin of Keshabpur village in Birampur Upazila of Dinajpur. The injured is assistant sub-inspector Shahidul Islam. In Narayanganj, three people were killed and 12 others injured in a road accident in Araihazar Upazila on Friday afternoon. The identities of the deceased could not be known. Police said a Dhaka-bound bus of 'Meghalay Paribahan' from Narsingdi hit a leguna (human haulier) in Purinda bus stand on Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 1pm, leaving a leguna passenger dead on the spot and 14 others injured. Of the injured, two succumbed to their injuries at hospitals. In Narail, a man was killed and 30 other people were injured in a bus crash at Bashvita on Narail-Jessore at Narail Sadar on Friday afternoon. Police said the driver of a Jessore-bound bus from Narail town lost control over the steering and skidded off the road and fell into road side ditch, leaving 31 passengers injured. The injured were rushed to different hospitals and clinics at Narail. Of them, Shamsher of Barashula village of Narail town succumbed to his injuries at Narail Sadar Hospital. In Sirajganj, a truck driver was killed and another injured as their trucks collided in Chandakona area in Raiganj Upazila on Friday. The deceased was identified as Sultan, son of Hafizur Rahman of Uchungi village of Sherpur Upazila of Bogra. Police said the two trucks collided around 6am, leaving Sultan dead on the spot. In Tangail, three people were killed in a collision between a bus and a tempo at Deulabari in Ghatail Upazila on Friday afternoon. The deceased could not be identified, according to a news agency.
