9 life, 2 general Ins cos get approval

A total of 11 new companies got approval Thursday for registration for doing insurance business in the country.
The approval was given at a board meeting of the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority (IDRA).
Of the 11 approved companies, nine are life insurers and two are general insurers.
The life insurance companies are: Sonali Life Insurance, Mercantile Life Insurance, Chartered Life Insurance, Taiyo Summit Life Insurance, NRB Global Life Insurance, Best Life Insurance, Zenith Life Insurance, Protective Life Insurance, and Guardian Life Insurance.
The general insurance companies are: Sikder Insurance, and Sena Kallyan General Insurance.
Earlier, a total of 77 aspirants applied for floating new insurance companies. Presently 62 insurers are in operation in the country.
