91,823 Hajj pilgrims reach Jeddah safely

A total of 91,823 Hajj pilgrims have safely reached Jeddah as Biman Bangladesh and Saudi Arabian Airlines along with eight third carriers declared their Hajj flights closed Friday after carrying a record number of devotees this year, reports BSS.
"Handling this record number of devotees smoothly, is a big success of all concerned bodies," Civil Aviation and Tourism Secretary Shafique Alam Mehedi told a press briefing at Balaka Bhaban Saturday.
The Hajj flights started on October 9 and ended Friday and the return flights will begin on November 21 and conclude by December 22, he said.
Biman Bangladesh closed their Hajj flights on November 10 while Saudi Arabian Airlines on November 12.
"For the first time, we involved eight more airlines as the third carriers apart from Biman Bangladesh Airlines and Saudi Arabian Airlines for carrying a huge number of Hajj pilgrims," Mehedi said.
Among the devotees, 6,733 went under government arrangement and 85,090 under private management. Biman carried 44,616 pilgrims, Saudi Airlines 19,781 while the third carriers ferried 27,426.
