FE Report
The food and disaster management ministry has allocated 9,200 tonnes of rice and Tk 42.5 million as relief to help evacuation and rehabilitate 4,548,181 flood affected people across the country.
Food and disaster management adviser Tapan Chowdhury disclosed this at a press briefing in Dhaka.
He said 36 districts have been engulfed by the floodwater while the rest 28 districts are less affected, he said.
Tapan Chowdhury claimed that the government had taken adequate measures to help the flood affected people.
Replying to a question, he, however, acknowledged that there was "lack of preparedness".
The adviser said that the flood and disaster management ministry has allocated 9200 tonnes of rice and the amount of money for the flood affected people across the country.
The flood affected 1089 unions of 159 upazilas and 12 municipalities under 36 districts in the country, he added.
Tapan Chowdhury said: "Along with relief operation, the government has taken some measures to rehabilitate the flood victims. Staffs of all departments concerned, including army, are working in the flood affected areas, activities of the Relief Control Cell of the disaster management ministry have been strengthened, the communications and shipping ministries have been asked to ensure supply of adequate drinking water and transport facilities, Cyclone Preparedness Centre across the country have been asked to incorporate the volunteers with the district administration to operate relief works in the flood engulfed areas."
