A total of 99 fishermen, who were floating in the Bay of Bengal for few days, were rescued on Sunday, reports UNB
In Bhola, fifty-nine of the 60 missing fishermen have been rescued from six trawlers in Bhola that sank in the deep sea amid stormy winds.
One of the fishermen named Abul Kalam from Chatla village in Lalmohan upazila in Bhola still remains missing, said Pallab Kumar Hazra, Lalmohan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO).
The six fishing trawlers sank in the Bay on Friday night, he said.
The sunken vessels are FV Lamia, and trawlers owned by Mojibul Sheikh, Saiful Majhi, Zakir Majhi, Najimuddin Majhi, and Nuruddin Majhi.
Four missing fishermen were rescued from Faruk Majhi's trawler by Indian Navy and were later handed over to Bangladesh Navy, he said, adding that others were rescued from different places in Sundarban and Hatia.
The rescued fishermen are returning to Bhola by a trawler on Sunday, said UNO Pallab Kumar.
However, Indian Coast Guard rescued 17 more Bangladeshi fishermen from the Bay of Bengal on Sunday after rescuing 10 fishermen on Saturday amid rough seas and strong winds.
In three operations, the ICG has rescued 27 Bangladeshi fishermen so far in its continuous effort to provide assistance at sea during inclement weather.
The search for missing Bangladeshi fishermen is in progress, the ICG tweeted.
On Saturday, the ICG rescued 10 Bangladeshi fishermen, who got caught in the cyclonic weather, from the Bay of Bengal.
Braving harsh weather, ICG ship Anmol in an operation rescued the fishermen 12 nautical miles from India's international maritime boundary with Bangladesh.
In Barishal, Coast Guard members on Sunday rescued 23 fishermen who were floating in the Bay of Bengal for five days as the engine of their trawler broke down.
Lieutenant Colonel BN KM Shafiul Kinjol, media personnel of Coast Guard South zone, said the engine of the trawler named 'Mayer Doa' with 23 fishermen went out of order on Wednesday.
A patrol team of the Coast Guard found the trawler floating in the Bay and rescued the fishermen in the morning, said Kinjol.
The trawler was taken to Nizampur Station where the fishermen were given first aid.
All the fishermen, who hail from the Banshkhali area, were out of danger and they were handed over to Al Amin, owner of the trawler, he said.
