A bridge in need of urgent renovation

Sunday, 4 January 2026

The bridge leading to Monglarpara village under Saghata police station in Gaibandha district is in a deplorable condition. It serves as the main route connecting the village with surrounding areas, but it has now become practically unusable for vehicular traffic.
The bridge's foundation is shaky, and its railings are broken, posing serious risks to hundreds of vans, autos, motorcycles, and CNGs that pass through daily. Heavy vehicles cause the bridge to shake, creating a constant danger of a major accident. During the rainy season, when the river overflows, the bridge becomes even more hazardous.
Moreover, its narrow width allows only two small vans to pass side by side, while larger vehicles such as private cars, CNGs, microbuses, and pickups must wait for one another to cross. This creates traffic congestion and increases the risk of accidents.
Renovating or reconstructing this bridge is urgently needed to ensure smooth and safe travel. I urge the authorities concerned to take immediate action before a serious accident occurs.
