A bumper BARI-16 mustard production on way in Gopalganj

GOPALGANJ, Feb 10: The farmers of Sadar Upazila in the district are expecting a bumper mustard production of BARI-16 this year.
According to Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), Gopalganj sources said, a total of 3486 hectares of land have been brought under BARI-16 mustard cultivation with a production target of 4183 metric tonnes in five upazilas of the districts.
Gopalganj sadar upazila have been brought under 1500 hectors of land and production target 1800 metric tonnes (MT), in Muksudpur upazila 900 hectors of land have been brought under mustered cultivation and production target at 1080 metric tonnes (MT), in Kashiani upazila 780 hectors of land have been brought under mustered cultivation and production target 936 metric tonnes (MT), a total of 56 hectors of land in Kotalipara upazila and production target 67 metric tonnes (MT) and in Tungipara upazila 250 hectors of land have been brought under BARI-16 mustered cultivation with a production target 300 metrict tonnes (MT).
Atul Krishna Mollik, Deputy Director (DD) Agriculture, Gopalganj told the FE that favourable climate condition, proper distribution of high quality seeds, timely supply of fertilisers, less pest attack and adequate agri-imputs made it possible for the farmers to cultivate the crop uninterruptedly.
On the other hand, Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB), Gopalganj, also distributed soft loan to the farmers in order to boost up the production of the crop, sources said.
