A dozen die in road crashes on 1st day of Eid holidays

At least 12 people were killed in separate road crashes and an accident involving train in different districts on Sunday, the 1st day of Eid-ul-Azha holidays. Six auto-rickshaw passengers were killed in a collision with a bus at Bagherkanda Bypass near the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in in Mymensingh Sadar Upazila at 11:45am. Among the injured, three were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH). Three of the dead have been identified – Nasir Uddin, 40, Parvin Akhter, 22, and Sharmin Akhter, 19. In Brahmanbaria, a woman and her twin children were killed in an accident at about 6am at Ujanchar in Sadar Upazila in the morning. The victims were identified as Rubina Akhter, 25, and her four-year-old twin sons – Sourav and Nirob. The victims were going to their village home in Nabinagar Upazila from Dhaka to celebrate Eid. A woman was killed and 17 other people were injured in a road crash at Bokchar in Gobindaganj Upazila in Gaibandha district. The accident took place on Dhaka-Rangpur highway around 7am when a Rangpur-bound microbus from Dhaka collided head-on with a bus coming from the opposite direction, leaving the woman dead on the spot and the 17 injured. The injured were taken to local hospital. Two people were killed in separate accidents on road and railway in Rajshahi district. An unidentified middle-aged woman was crushed under the wheels of a train in Darigharbona level crossing in Rajshahi city around 8:am. In Putia Upazila of the district, Hasan Ali, 28, hailing from Kartikpara village of the Upazila, was hit and killed by a truck around 9:30am, according to private TV channels.
