A dozen gets life for killing 1 in Bagerhat

A dozen people have been sentenced to life term imprisonment for killing a man in Bagerhat nine years ago. Judge of the District and Sessions Judge’s Court Mizanur Rahman Khan handed down the punishment to 12, acquitting three other accused in the Raju murder case. Raju, son of Sheikh Nur Islam of Jatrapur village of Bagerhat Sadar upazila, was strangled to death by the convicts at Jatrapur village on the way to a local bazar from his house on September 4 in 2006. The convicts are Razzak, Hossain Sheikh, Lavlu, Nazrul, Sattar, Faruque, Shawkat, Nuru, Qamrul, Ziarul, Qader, and Tipu Sultan. They hail from Jatrapur, Chapatala and Arfa villages. The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer one year more RI. The three acquitted people are Talimuzzaman, Russell and Mizanur Rahman, according to a news agency.
