A lesson from Chinese quake
Tuesday, 5 August 2014
In south-western China, a deadly earthquake of 6.3 magnitude killed 400 people. The number is likely to go up. The earthquake has caused thousands of buildings to collapse making thousands injured. Communication networks have seriously been damaged making it difficult for even rescue vehicles to reach many affected places.
In 2008, another quake in China killed around 70,000 people the scar of which is still fresh. We need to learn from this havoc of nature and be prepared as Bangladesh also lies in an earthquake prone zone. We must be prepared for such a natural disaster. It will be catastrophic if any major quake hits Dhaka, a densely populated city. We must make all preparedness to face such catastrophe.
