A memory shattered

Wednesday, 8 December 2010

MYMENSINGH, Dec 7 (bdnews24.com): Residents of Mymensingh experienced an agonising nostalgia when dazzling shopping malls and multi-storied buildings replaced the town's Alka and Ajanta cinema halls.
Explosions in four halls of the town, including Alka, turned the merriment of Eid-ul-Fitr into a nightmare on the evening of Dec 7, 2002.
The first blow came around 6pm at Ajanta cinema, near the town's Trishal Bus Stand, and subsequent explosions occurred at Alka, Chhayabani and Purabi halls, leaving 18 people dead and 20 others disabled for life.
Hall-owners claimed the panic still seizes the audience, holding them back from spontaneous visits to the halls, which has gradually been causing a great loss.
