A plan to boost memory power in ten days

Sunday, 13 September 2009

M A Islam
IT is very unfortunate that we, humans, do not use the maximum of our brains. It is more unfortunate that we do not even try to use the power of brains, which has immense potentials to do great jobs.
One of the main tasks of the brain is to remember. Students need to utilise the best of memory power. The better memory power a student has, it is more likely for the student to perform better in studies. In his book Khibhabey bhalo chatro howa jai (How to be a good student) the writer Mr. Anwar Islam shows how to sharpen memory power in ten days and thus do better in academic life. If a student works accordingly for ten days, he or she will be very confident about studies. Below is the detailed plan for the ten days.

First day
Spend the first day for growing indomitable willing power.
Will power
Napoleon used to say: "Since I wished, I became successful in every work." When one has indomitable willing power, the power of neurons lying in cortex is enhanced many times. As a result, one can speed up one's brain and solve any problem faster. Having strong will about a work means completing the half of the work.
Repetition
Only strong will power will not help, you must grow rich study habit. You need to study regularly and with perseverance. You need to revise old lessons everyday.
Purpose
You need to know what answers you are going to get from learning the specific lesson. If you have purpose clear in mind, reading will be very enjoying to you.

Second day
Learn to make lessons interesting on the second day.
Pleasant reading
In reality, almost no lesson is difficult. Whether a lesson is hard or difficult is a matter of individual's personal perception. You can make difficult lessons interesting through following special processes.
Attaching today's lessons with your aim in life
Things will be much easier if you can, in your mind, relate your lessons with your aim in life. After some days you will see that even the most difficult subject has been easy and interesting to you.
Dividing lessons
The lessons might be difficult to you if its volume is too big for you. In that case, divide your lessons into small pieces and complete them one by one. As Barnard Shaw said, "The worst way of doing any work is applying force while doing the work." The more you can divide your tasks, the better skills you will earn in grasping it.
Due order of everyday lessons
If you can keep easy reading after difficult reading and then again easy reading, you will get best results.
Time of studying
You may read the most difficult lesson when you are physically and mentally fresh. If mathematics is very difficult to you, you may do sums after waking up in the morning. You will see that you are doing good in mathematics.
Spend small amount of time for difficult lessons
Initially, you may spend small amount of time for difficult lessons. But use the best of your body and mind for the small amount of time. You will get good results.
Take rest between two lessons
You may take rest between two lessons. Also you may give pause every now and then while preparing a lesson.

Third day
Learn how to control your mind on the third day.
Be not the slave of your mind
Whether you like or not like, you will have to complete your lessons in the time allocated. Do not wait for the 'good mood'. Apply force on your mind.
Do not leave your chair without completing the lesson
When you are at the study table, your mind might be filled with scattered thoughts. Do not worry. Try to concentrate. You will see that scattered thoughts are being reduced day by day. Finish your specific lessons and then you may leave the chair.
Do it today or now
Many students think that "I will read it tomorrow" and then they do not study the same lesson on the following day, either they forget or they neglect. The best is not to do so. Remember that the best time to do any work is NOW. One writer has explained NOW in this way: No Opportunity Wasted. That is, if you can do a work now or today, you will lose no opportunity in life.
Read until you are tired
Do not be restless while studying. When you are restless, you are actually wasting your energy. When you are reading an interesting novel, you can read this for twelve hours at a stretch. So if you like your subject you will not be tired and you will be able to finish it at one sitting.
Daily routine
For utilising the best of the day, prepare a routine for the whole day. Make routine in such a way so that you can follow it, otherwise the whole time for preparing the routine will be wasted.
Keeping necessary things ready
Keep your study materials ready beside your study table. Do not leave chair for water, dictionary, stapler or highlighter. Keep them ready at the table so that you do not have leave your chair to bring these necessary things.
