FE Report
The bravery of a senior police officer helped in the arrest of a gang of fleeing robbers at Asad Gate in the city early Sunday
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (Ramna Zone) Nurul Islam, the officer, became suspicious at the break neck speed of a Gabtoli-bound passenger bus from Sayedabad at Shahbagh intersection on his way home at about 1:45am.
Sensing that something was amiss, Mr Islam along with his driver and bodyguard chased the speeding bus and finally intercepted it at Asad Gate by placing his car as a road block.
The bus took a U-turn to avoid the barricade, but the policemen managed to arrest three of the five-man gang while two fled from the spot instantly, Sub-Inspector (SI) of Shahbagh Police Station Nasim Uddin told the FE.
Later, on a tip off, Darus Salam police arrested both the absconders in the morning. All the apprehended robbers are being interrogated by Shahbagh police.
The SI quoting the arrested persons said they in the guise of passengers boarded the Gabtoli-bound bus from Sayedabad. When the bus reached Matsya Bhaban, the armed gang swooped on the passengers and started looting their money and other valuables.
Some of the bus passengers sustained stab injuries during the looting.
