A vast track along the Jhenai River in Islampur upazila of Jamalpur district runs dry during the winter leading to emergence of large shoals (Char). Locals plant paddy on the sun-baked banks of the river after silt accumulation. In the picture, a peasant is carrying paddy seedlings to transplant them on the dry riverbed. — FE photo
