Aarong launches online shop
Friday, 18 July 2014
Aarong, country's leading fashion and lifestyle brand, unveiled its new online shop at an event at BRAC Centre Thursday, said a statement.
Governor of Bangladesh Bank Dr Atiur Rahman inaugurated the website, while BRAC founder and chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed was present as the special guest.
Atiur Rahman hailed the initiative as a key milestone in Bangladesh's progress in e-commerce.
Sir Fazle Hasan Abed said, "Thanks to the bold regulatory moves in ensuring online and mobile based payment system and the rapid rise of internet users in Bangladesh, the progress of ecommerce in Bangladesh is just a matter of time."
"My dream is to see Aarong.com become a global marketplace for rural artisans worldwide", he added.
Tamara Abed, senior director, BRAC Social Enterprises, said Aarong took great care in ensuring that users get a high quality shopping experience in their online shop in synch with the brand promise. E-commerce is the buying and selling of products or services over the internet. It is still a relatively new concept in Bangladesh but has been rapidly growing over the last 12 months.
Executive director of Asiatic JWT and media personality Iresh Zaker and BRAC Business School faculty Tahsan Khan were also present on the occasion, among others.
Aarong's new online marketplace will meet customers' growing demand by making their products available all over Bangladesh. Furthermore, this broadens Aarong's market significantly by creating a platform for customers living abroad. Aarong's website exhibits a wide range of products and provides flexible payment options such as bkash, cash on delivery or credit card secured through BRAC Bank's payment gateway. Customers will also be able to return or exchange products at any Aarong outlet. My Aarong Rewards card members can also purchase items online while earning and redeeming points on their cards.
