AB Bank chairman wins Atish Dipankar Award

AB Bank Limited Chairman M Wahidul Haque was awarded with the prestigious Atish Dipankar Gold Medal 2010 for his contribution to the overall development and a long time association with the tea industry of Bangladesh.
The prize giving ceremony coincided with the completion of 27 years of Atish Dipankar Research Centre.
A seminar entitled "Human Values and Today's Society" was also held during the award presenting ceremony.
Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad MP was present on the occasion as the chief guest.
A doyen in his field, Mr. Haque is the Managing Director of Deundi Tea Company (UK) Limited, and Noyapara Tea Company (UK) Limited. Mr. Haque is also a Member of Bangladesh Tea Board (Dhaka), Board of Trustees, Plantation Employees Provident Fund and Cha Sramik Kalayan Trust of the Government of Bangladesh. Mr. Haque has been the longest serving Chairman of Bangladesh Tea Association.
Mr. Haque joined the post of chairmanship on July 16, 2008. As chairman of the bank, Mr. Haque has been relentlessly providing guidance to uphold the expectations of customers, regulators and shareholders of the bank and at the same time making considerable contribution to national economy and society.
He was born in 1952. The holder of double degrees in Arts and Law, Mr. Haque is widely recognized by variety of civic, environmental, social service and community organizations for his public service leadership. Mr. Haque spends his leisure time with family and enjoys reading books, business chronicles and has travelled widely.
