Abahani clinch 20/20 title

A five-wicket haul by Arafat Sunny enabled Abahani Limited to clinch the title of the Metropolis Premier Division 20/20 Cricket League outplaying City Club by 6 wickets in the final at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) here Sunday, reports UNB.
Surjotorun Club achieved the 3rd slot crushing Victoria SC by nine wickets in the 3rd place decider at the same venue.
In the final, Sunny took five wickets for just 12 runs as the coin-favoured City Club were bundled out for just 79 runs in the stipulated 20 overs with only three of their batsmen reaching the double figures. Sunny was later adjudged man of the match for his wonderful bowling performance.
Skipper-cum-opener Imran Ahmed and middle order Arafat Salahuddin scored 13 runs each while number five Abul Bashar made 11.
Apart from Sunny, pacer Ziaur Rahman claimed three wickets for 19 runs. Zia was also named man of the series.
Responding to a moderate target, Abahani Limited easily cruised to victory as they scored the required 80 in 18.3 overs for the loss of four wickets with opener Jahurul Islam topscoring 29 off 45 balls with one six.
Another opener Mahbubul Karim 20, skipper Tushar Imran 11, Nadif Chowdhury 11 and Nazimuddin 6 enabled the popular Dhanmondi outfit to their first 20/20 title.
Raqibul Islam bagged two wickets for 14 runs while Atiqur Rahman and Shafaq Al Zabir took one wicket each.
Earlier, sent in to bat first in the 3rd place decider, Victoria SC were restricted at 78 for 9 in the allocated 20 overs with Waseluddin making team highest 16 not out, while wicket keeper Dhiman Ghosh contributed 15.
Delwar Hossain, Nazmul Hossain and Mohammad Yunus grabbed two wickets each. Delwar was later adjudged man of the match.
In reply, number three Shamsur Rahman Shuvo hammered 42 off 20 balls with five fours and three sixes as Surjotorun Club sailed to victory reaching the target of 79 in 8.5 overs losing one wicket.
Pacer Mohammad Shahzada took the lone wicket for his side.
