Abahani continue their winning spreein Citycell Bangladesh League
Monday, 19 April 2010
Reigning champions Dhaka Abahani continued to impress their supporters as they cantered home with a comfortable 3-0 win drubbing over Arambagh Krira Chakra in the only match of the Citycell Bangladesh League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Sunday, reports BSS.
Defending champions Abahani not only maintained their winning spree but also remained at the top of the point table as their national forward Enamul scored a brace while his Ghanaian teammate Awudu Ibrahim joined the party by scoring the other goal.
It was a one sided affair with Arambagh busy trying to restrict the free flowing Abahani attackers with ultra defensive approach. Though they fielded a three- pronged attack with Alfaz returning from London after missing three matches and Dominic Kaboye and Nicodemus, their offence rarely troubled the Abahani defence who had nice slumber with hardly anyone to disturb them.
Abahani on the other hand attacked from the midfield and along with the wings, but they were forced to wait for the goal till the 34th minute.
However, the sky blue outfit can consider themselves unfortunate as in the 11th minute when midfielder Uzzal's neat placing shot off an Awudu Ibrahim through pass beat onrushing Arambagh custodian Masud but much to the dismay of the Abahani supporters the ball rolled just past the goal post.
Abahani continued to pile the pressure and Awudu Ibrahim's magical approach provided the much needed stalemate to be broken.
Tipped with a Motiur Munna through pass the Ghanaian forward shrugged off the challenge of his marker and placed the ball into the far post with a perfectly well placed shot.
Three minutes from the interval, Abahani and midfielder Pranotosh was denied by the woodwork to increase the tally for the champions. Pranotosh, who unleashed a fierce shot from about 35 yards, saw his brilliant effort bounce back to the field hitting the woodwork.
The second half belonged to Enamul who scored the brace within five minutes. Enamul capitalized a faulty clearance of Arambagh defender Prodip Barua in the 52nd minute and kept his cool to beat onrushing Masud with a gentle toe-pock in the far post for his first goal and four minutes later he converted the penalty in the 56th minute to make it 3-0 for the sky blue jersey.
Arambagh defender Parvez in a bid to tackle brought down striker Enamul in the danger zone and referee Azad Rahman had no hesitation in pointing his finger to dreaded spot. Enamul made no mistake as he sent Masud diving the wrong way to provide Abahani a three goal cushion.
Abahani looked not very much interested to increase the tally as they spent the remaining time in a leisurely manner. Arambagh's midfielder Nurul Islam was given marching order five minutes away from time.
Abahani lead the table with 49 points from 17 matches while Arambagh remained on their previous 15 from the same number of outings.
