Abahani maintain winning spree

Holders Abahani Limited continued their winning run in the Citycell Bangladesh League with an emphatic 5-1 victory over Rahmatganj MFS in the day's lone match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium (BNS) in the city Tuesday, reports UNB.
With this win, Abahani maintained top spot with 55 points from 19 matches while Rahmatganj MFS remained at 5th position with 19 points from 18 outings.
Striker Enamul Haque struck twice while Ghanaian strikers Sheriff Din Mohammed and Awudu Ibrahim, and Atiqur Rahman Meshu netted one goal each for the winners, who led the first half 2-0. Uganda recruit Iddris Kasirye scored the consolation goal for the losers.
Enamul put Abahani Limited ahead in the very 5th minute with a header from inside the danger zone after taking a right wing cross from Rajani Kanta Barman (1-0).
Sheriff doubled the winners' margin in the 26th minute also with a header from inside the small D-box off a close pass from Ibrahim (2-0).
After the break, Enamul scored his second goal and 3rd for his team in the 47th minute with a placed shot from inside the danger zone utilizing a pass from Ujjal (3-0).
Striker Iddris pulled one back for the old Dhaka outfit in the 54th minute with a gentle push from the handshake distance after jinking past Ahahani's custodian Biplob Bhatrachariya, who came forward to clear the ball.
Ibrahim further widened Abahani's margin in the 69th minute with a superb eye-catching free kick giving no chance to Rahmatganj MFS custodian Nehal, who showed poor performance under the bar (4-1).
Meshu completed the winners' tally in the 73rd minute with a left-footed angled shot from inside the D-box off a close pass from Enamul (5-1).
The result could have been 6-1 if onrushing Abul Hossain's lofted shot had not hit the bar and gone in.
The talented striker Enamul missed hat-trick chance in a span of three minutes. But, both the attempts in the 87th and 89th minutes unfortunately, went wide.
The sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit clearly dominated the entire proceedings and notched their deserving victory while the hosts were totally off-colour and failed to create any real attempt except the lone goal on the day.
