Abahani reach Fed Cup quarterfinal

Dhaka Abahani advanced to the quarterfinal of the Grameephone Federation Cup Football with a 2-1 win over Arambagh KS in a Group B match at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Sunday, reports UNB
The traditional sky-blue Dhanmondi outfit Abahani is the lone team in the ongoing tournament to earn the 2nd successive victory after crushing Police AC by 6-0 goals Wednesday.
In the day's match, Nigerian forward Lucky Paul Otofe and Ghanaian forward Twum Frank scored one goal each for Abahani while Mohammad Mamun netted the only goal for Arambagh KS.
Lucky Paul scored the first goal for Abahani in the 18th minute by a close-range shot when a left frank cross of Waly Faisal came his way from Arambagh goalie Mustafiz via Twum Frank header (1-0)
Twum Frank of Ghana doubled the Abahani margin in the 66th minute beating Arambagh custodian Mostafiz in the six yard box, utilizing a lob of Lucky Paul (2-0).
Substitute midfielder Mohammad Mamun scored the lone goal for Arambagh in the 83rd minute after dodging past Abahani goalie Sohel Mamun following a defence lapse (2-1).
In the day's other match, Police AC beat Soccer Club Feni by 1-0 goal at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Sepoy Mohammad Msutafa Kamal Stadium in Kamlapur
Mofizur Rahman scored the match-winner for Police in the 56th minute from penalty. The referee awarded the spot kick after Mofizur was fouled by Mustafa Baba inside the danger zone.
After the day's matches, Abahani tops the group securing full six points, followed by Police AC with three points while Arambagh KS and Soccer Club Feni languish at the bottom with both on one point.
