Abahani regain top slot beating their Ctg counterparts

Title aspirants Abahani Limited earned a hard-fought 2-1 win over Chittagong Abahani in the day's lone return league match of the B League at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in the city Thursday, reports UNB.
With this result, the popular "sky blue" Dhanmondi outfit regained the top slot securing 29 points, two points ahead of Sheikh Russell KC and Muktijoddha Sangsad KC (27 points from 15 matches) while Chittagong Abahani remained at 11 points from 15 outings.
Earlier, in the first leg, Abahani Limited beat Chittagong Abahani by 2-0 goals in Chittagong.
In the day's match, medio Zahid Hasan Emily and striker Prantosh Kumar Das scored for Abahani Limited, who trailed 0-1 in the first half.
Khokon Das netted the lone goal for Chittagong Abahani.
Khokon put Chittagong Abahani ahead in the 44th minute by a right-footer from inside the D-box capitalising on a left wing Santosh cross (1-0).
After the lemon break, Emily restored parity (1-1) for Abahani Limited in the 57th minute by a spectacular header from inside the danger zone.
Prantosh doubled the Abahani Limited margin in the 87th minute by placing shot from inside the D-box after dodging past opponents' custodian Surendra off a close range Emily pass (2-1).
Earlier, the Dhanmondi-based sky-blue outfit launched their first attack in the 12th minute, but Emily failed to push the ball home off a Uzzal right wing cross.
Abahani Limited again came close to scoring in the 36th minute, but Ibrahim's powerful angular shot from the right edge of the D-box sailed harmlessly over the crossbar.
Abahani Limited missed several scoring chances in the second half. A lofted powerful shot by substitute Parvez from around midfield was saved superbly by custodian Santosh for a corner in the 62nd minute.
Emily must think himself unlucky when his powerful header from vantage position whistled past beside the side bar in the 65th minute.
On the other hand, Chittagong Abahani, which played better football against their more celebrated opponents in the first half, withered away in the second half.
