Abahani Limited emerged champions in the Metropolis Premier Division Cricket for the third time in a row with one match to spare as they beat Biman Bangladesh by three wickets at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) at Mirpur in Dhaka Friday, reports UNB.
In the day's other matches, riding on a blistering ton by opener Raquibul Hasan, Mohammedan SC beat Partex SC by 54 runs at Narayanganj Osmani Stadium at Fatullah while an all-round performance by national skipper Mohammad Ashraful guided Gazi Tanks to a five- wicket win over Surjo Tarun Club at the BKSP in Savar.
Biman Bangladesh vs Abahabni Limited
Batting first after winning the toss, Biman Bangladesh scored 228 runs for 9 wickets in stipulated 50 overs.
One down Sanwar Hossain contributed 52 runs off 80 balls with five fours and a six while tail-ender Mahbubul Alam hammered 52 runs off 43 balls with five fours and three sixes.
Middle orders Hasanuzzaman (43), Zahid Newaz (30) and Shahjada (25) were the other notable scorers for Biman Bangladesh.
Imran Ahmed, Talha Zubair, Arafat Sunny and Shahadat Hossain captured two wickets each for 34, 39, 41 and 60 runs respectively.
In reply, Abahani Limited reached their target of 229 runs in 48.5 overs for the loss of seven wickets.
Opener Imran Ahmed scored 56 runs off 84 balls with four fours while middle order Sagir Hossain made 40 off 53 balls with two fours.
Two down Resmi Ranjan (28), one down Kamrul Islam (24) and Arafat Sunny (21) were the other major scorers for Abahani Limited.
Nabil Samad grabbed four wickets for 49 runs while Nazmus Sadat took two wickets for 33.
Mohammedan SC vs Partex SC
Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Mohammedan SC piled up 289 runs for six wickets in 50 overs.
Opener Raquibul Hasan hammered 171 runs off 148 balls with 16 fours and two sixes while one down Shamsur Rahman scored 41 runs off 74 balls with three fours. Besides, Foysal Hossain scored 23 runs and Farhad Hossain made 17.
Shirhan Sharif claimed three wickets for 46 runs while Shafiul Alam took two wickets for 37 runs.
Chasing the huge target, Partex SC were all out for 235 in 44.3 overs.
Two down Mushfiqur Rahim scored 81 runs off 99 balls with two fours while one down Tariq Ahmed made a quick fire 64 off 50 balls that nine fours and a six.
Openers Shafiul Alam (25) and Fahad Ul Haq (13) were the other notable scorers for Partex SC.
Murad Khan claimed four wickets for 35 runs while Tareq Aziz Khan and Sajidul Islam took two wickets each for 30 and 52 runs respectively.
Gazi Tanks vs Surjo Tarun Club
An all-round performance by national skipper Mohammad Ashraful guided Gazi Tanks to a five-wicket win over Surjo Tarun Club.
Favored by coin, Surjo Tarun Club batted first to score 196 for all in 49 overs with skipper Khaled Masud scoring 39 runs off 70 balls that featured two fours.
Shafiul Islam hammered not out 28 runs off 17 balls with four fours and a six while Sabbir Rahman scored 27 runs, Sanjamul Islam not out 26, Rajin Saleh 22 and Hannan Sarker 20 runs.
Ashraful captured four wickets for 41 runs while Rubel Hossain grabbed two wickets for 35 runs.
In reply, Gazi Tanks Cricketers easily reached their target of 197 runs in 47.4 overs for the loss of five wickets.
Skipper Mohammad Ashraful contributed 67 runs off 72 balls with four fours and two sixes while middle order Imrul Kayes scored 37 runs off 59 balls with two fours and six.
Mahmudul Hasan and Nayeem Islam remained unbeaten on 28 and 19 runs respectively.
Rajin Saleh and Sanjamul Islam took two wickets each both conceding 19 runs.
