A Dhaka court has issued a warrant for the arrest of 20 BNP leaders and activists, including its standing committee member Mirza Abbas, in two violence cases filed with Mirpur Police Station. Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman passed the order after framing charges against 87 accused in the two cases – 48 in one case and 39 in the other one. The court also fixed November 25 for the start of formal trial with the deposition of witnesses. Public prosecutor M Hemayet Uddin Khan Hiron said the court issued the arrest warrant for the 20 BNP men rejecting their time petition for appearing before the court. He said a court earlier fixed Sunday for framing charges and asked the accused to appear before the court. As the 20 accused, including Mirza Abbas, were absent on Sunday, the court issued the warrant arrest for them, Hiron said. A case was filed against some unidentified people with Mirpur Police Station on June 26 in 2010 after miscreants torched some vehicles in Mirpur on the day. Police filed another case against some unknown people on the same day as miscreants swooped on a ‘Dishari Paribahan’ bus, assaulted its driver and badly damaged the vehicle in front of Mirpur Sadhin Bangla Market, according to a news agency.
