Police rescued a man from the Sundarbans on Saturday night, three days after his abduction from Khulna city. Mahfuzur Rahman, an engineer of Chittagong University (CU), was rescued from the jungle near Hadda village in Koyra Upazila in Khulna, said Detective Police OC TM Rokon Uz Zaman. He said the kidnappers had beaten him up and snatched Tk 20 thousand from him. Rahman came to Khulna on Wednesday from Chittagong to visit a fisheries project. A few men claiming to be affiliated with the project received him at the rail station and took him to a forest in Sundarbans. He was detained there and his wife was called up for a ransom several times, said the detective officer. Rahman’s family informed the police. ‘The abductors fled when they suspected police approaching on Saturday night, leaving Mahfuzur Rahman near Hadda village. We rescued him from there,’ OC Zaman said, according to bdnews24.com.
