Thursday, 2 July 2015

Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, founder and chairperson of BRAC, has been named laureate of World Food Prize-2015. Fazle Hasan Abed, 79, won this year’s World Food Prize for his unparalleled achievement in building a unique and integrated development organisation. The Des Moines foundation, based in Iowa, USA, announced Fazle Hasan Abed’s name on Wednesday as recipient of the World Food Prize-2015. US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the prize at the State Department in Washington. The Des Moines hands out the award every year. Abed will receive the award and $250,000 in prize money at a ceremony in October. "Poverty is a multidimensional thing. It's not just lack of income or lack of employment, it's also lack of opportunity, lack of education, lack of opportunity for health care and so on," Abed told The Associated Press in a telephone interview from Bangladesh, according to a news agency.
