About 30pc children in Natore malnourished

NATORE, Mar 12: Malnutrition is a great impediment to the sound growth of children. In Natore Sadar, Bagatipara, Lalpur, Baraigram, Gurudashpur and Singra Upazilas under Natore district about 30 per cent of children have been suffering from malnutrition. Malnourished children very often suffer from diarrhoea, pneumonia, dysentery and viral fever. Mother's reluctance to breast feeding is the main cause behind malnutrition of children. About 30 per cent mothers of the Natore district prefer baby food to breast milk. They seem not to consider breast milk essential for their children. Deficiency of vitamin 'A' is another cause of malnutrition of the children. Most of the mothers do not know which food items provide vitamin 'A' to their offsprings.
