Abritti announces poetry recitals in support of war crime trials

Cultural organisation Abritti Shomonnoy Parishad (ASP) have announced a programme of poetry recitals across the country starting August 1 to press home its demand for trial of war crimes, reports bdnews24.com.

At a press briefing Sunday, ASP President Asaduzzaman Noor said: "We have to raise united voices demanding the trial of war crimes."

"The 1971 war criminals have engaged in fresh conspiracies, even attempting to harass freedom fighters. We must now resist those enemies of the nation," he observed.

In accord with the Liberation War Sector Commanders Forum, Noor also demanded formation of special tribunals for trying war criminals.

He said the ASP recitals would be held in cities and towns countrywide at local martyrs' monuments, with different cultural organisations' participation.

Recitals of poetry composed on the Liberation War will be held in Chittagong, Bandarban, Feni and Brahmanbaria on August 1, and at Comilla, Rajbari, Sylhet, Srimangal and Matlab on August 2.

Recitals will be held at Khulna and Magura on August 8, and at Kushtia, Satkhira and Jhenidah on August 9.

Rajshahi, Naogaon, Barisal and Bhola will hold recitals on August 16, Rangpur, Kurigram, Gazipur and Narayanganj on August 22 and Mymensingh and Madaripur on August 23.

The final recital programme will be held at the Kendriyo Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on August 29.

Recitation artistes Hasan Arif, Iqbal Morshed Jafar, Abdus Selim Chowdhury, Rafiqul Islam and Maqsood A Sattar Pallava attended the press briefing.
