ACC approves charge sheet against Koko

Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) approved the charge sheet of the case filed against Arafat Rahman Koko, youngest son of former premier Khaleda Zia, allowing the investigation officer (IO) to submit it to the court for trial, reports BSS.

The ACC lodged the FIR of the case with Ramna thana on April 23 last against Koko on charge of amassing wealth of over Tk 20 million and hiding information about wealth of about Tk 1.12 million in his wealth statement.

Director General of the ACC Hanif Iqbal Monday said the commission approved the charge sheet as the allegation brought against Koko has been proved. As per sections 26 (2) and 27 (1) of the ACC Act 2004, Koko committed punishable offence, he said.

The ACC also given its nod to four more charge sheets of the cases filed against several persons, including two former municipality chairmen, on various charges.

It pressed charge sheet against Firoza Raju, wife of former BNP MP Ali Reza Raju, on charge of acquiring illegal wealth beyond her known income sources.

Customs Inspector of Sylhet Osmani Airport Mohammad Selim had been charged with appropriation of 481 mobile sets and 200 mobile batteries.

Former chairman of Chhatak Pourasabha Abdul Wahed Monju and four others were accused of financial loss to the state and former chairman of Nalchhiti (Jhalkati) Pourasabha and four others were accused of taking bribe.

Colonel Hanif Iqbal said the ACC served notices on eight more persons, including six engineers of the Department of Roads and Highways, asking them to submit their wealth statements to the commission within seven working days as per the ACC Act-2004.

The R&H engineers are additional chief engineers Fhakrul Alam Talukder and Shahabuddin, executive engineers Jalilur Rahman Pramanik, Arifur Rahman Zinnah and MA Muktadir Belal and sub- assistant engineer M Nurul Haque.

Two other notice recipients are Abu Jafar Chowdhury, chairman of Dhaka Mercantile Cooperative Bank Limited and M Quamruzzaman, a member of Water Development Board.
