Bribery case against ex-CJ Sinha

ACC case against Nazmul Huda to continue

FE REPORT | Wednesday, 8 June 2022

The High Court on Tuesday summarily rejected a petition filed by former communications minister Nazmul Huda to cancel trial proceedings of a case filed against him by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on February 19, 2020 for filing a false bribery case against former chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha.
A HC bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo passed the order and also directed the Special Court-9 of Dhaka to complete the trial proceedings of the case against Nazmul Huda within six months.
Lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan appeared in the hearing on behalf of the ACC, while deputy attorney general AKM Amin Uddin Manik represented the state.
"During the hearing the court observed that this kind of case is very detrimental to the image of the Supreme Court. Everyone has to protect the image of the Supreme Court. If a case is filed against the verdict of the Supreme Court judges, then there will be no judicial system," said deputy attorney general Amin Uddin Manik.
The ACC Director Syed Iqbal Hossain filed the case with the ACC's integrated district office in Dhaka on February 19 of 2020.
