The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought extensive financial records from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) covering former president Nazmul Hassan Papon's tenure, reports bdnews24.com.
The request includes spending on the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), media rights, Mujib Year events, overseas travel, helicopter use and development projects.
ACC Deputy Director Md Saiduzzaman, who leads the inquiry team, sent three letters to the BCB on Jul 1 seeking the documents.
The board has been requested to send certified copies of the records to the investigation officer within five working days of receiving the notices.
ACC Deputy Director Akhtarul Islam said on Sunday the documents would be examined before deciding the next course of action.
According to the letters, the graftbuster is investigating allegations that Nazmul -- former MP for Kishoreganj-6, former sports minister and managing director of Beximco Pharmaceuticals -- and others "embezzled" BCB and public funds through corruption, acquiring assets in Bangladesh and abroad beyond means.
The inquiry also refers to allegations that Nazmul's son-in-law and other Beximco Pharmaceuticals officials laundered money overseas through the hundi system.
The commission has sought records on the consultant and contractor appointment process for the proposed BCB stadium in Purbachal, including tender documents, evaluation reports, contracts, cost estimates, land acquisition records and imported materials.
It also requested audit reports, ICC and ACC revenue records, logistics and protocol expenses, BPL expenditure, foreign coaches' recruitment policies and salary payments, board meeting minutes and audited financial statements from the 2012-13 to 2025-26 fiscal years.
The ACC also sought records relating to Mujib Year celebrations, the AR Rahman concert, Bangabandhu BPL tournaments, media rights sales, internal audit reports, overseas travel funded by the board, helicopter expenses, and annual income from FDRs, the ICC and the ACC.
Nazmul led the BCB from 2012 until resigning virtually at an emergency board meeting on Aug 21, 2024, after going into hiding following the Awami League government's fall on Aug 5.
