The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has filed a case against convicted former state minister and Awami League (AL) presidium member Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir's wife Sitara Alamgir for concealing information and amassing wealth beyond her known sources of income.
ACC Assistant Director Rahila Khatun filed the first information report (FIR) against Sitara Alamgir with the Ramna police station Monday for concealing information about wealth worth over Tk 2.251 million (22.51 lakh) and acquiring property worth over Tk 13.5 million that do not match her known sources of income.
The case has been filed under sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004 and section 15(D)(5) of the Emergency Power Rules, 2007.
The complainant mentioned in the FIR that during the inquiry into the corruption allegations of her husband Mohiuddin, the inquiry officer came to know that Sitara possessed huge assets earned illegally.
Based on this information, the ACC issued notice upon her on June 27, 2007 directing to submit her wealth statement. Accordingly, Sitara submitted the wealth statement to the ACC secretary on July 16, 2007 through her representative stating that she had moveable and immovable property worth about Tk 23.7 million.
Meanwhile, according to ACC sources, the Commission approved Wednesday the filing of graft cases against former BNP state minister and an MP from Gazipur Prof MA Mannan and Munshiganj district AL president Mohiuddin.
The cases would be filed soon, the sources said.
