ACC files case against one cable network distributor
Monday, 15 June 2015
The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Monday filed a case against the owner of a private cable network for accumulation of illegal wealth.
ACC Deputy Director Jalal Uddin filed the case against M Shahjahan Ahmed, owner of New Star Cable TV Network, with Ramna Police Station in the capital this afternoon.
Citing the first information report (FIR), ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya said the ACC earlier received a graft allegation against Shahjahan Ahmed in 2011.
After examining it, the anti-graft body had started a probe into the allegation and asked Shahjahan to submit his wealth statement before the commission.
Scrutinizing the wealth statement, the ACC inquiry found that Shahjahan Ahmed amassed illegal wealth worth Tk 16.2 million. He also concealed wealth around Tk1.1 million in his wealth report.
The case was filed under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2004.
