ACC finds Tk 9.2m in Kishoreganj auditor's house

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has seized Tk 9.2 million from the house of an auditor working for the District Accounts Office in Kishoreganj, reports bdnews24.com.
The anti-graft regulator arrested Md Syeduzzaman, the owner of the house, on February 6.
Syeduzzaman later confessed to his involvement in the embezzlement of Tk 50 million from government funds aimed at compensating land owners.
ACC officers raided the house in Kishoreganj's Katiarchar around 1:00 am Wednesday, said Assistant Director Md Abdul Wadud.
"The money was stashed in a cupboard and two bags hanging from the ceiling. I believe the money was embezzled from government funds," said Wadud.
On January 17, ACC arrested Kishoreganj district land acquisition officer Md Setaful Islam on charges of embezzling Tk 50 million in government funds.
Setaful named Syeduzzaman and other officials during an interrogation for their roles in the embezzlement, according to Wadud.
Following his statement, ACC arrested Syeduzzaman. Nasim Anwar, a director at the ACC Dhaka Divisional Headquarters, led the raid on his house following his
confession.
