ACC grills BNP leader Milon again on graft charges

Friday, 15 March 2013

FE Report The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Thursday quizzed BNP leader and former State Minister for Education Ehsanul Haque Milon for the fourth time on graft charges. The anti-graft body deputy director Shahin Ara Momtaz grilled him from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the media. The ACC quizzed Milon on charges of gathering wealth illegally during the past BNP-Jama'at alliance regime. Earlier on February 7, ACC quizzed Milon on the same accusations. However, Milon claimed that he is the victim of politics as his political rivals are pushing the ACC to quiz him again and again. "I am a victim of political harassment. All the allegations brought against me are false and baseless," he told reporters in front of the ACC head office here in the afternoon after getting grilled. He further said, "The ACC grilled me for the fourth time on charges of accumulating illegal wealth. But, it earlier had cleared me that I was not involved in any corruption." ACC sources said there are several graft allegations against Milon and his wife like influencing in tender process and misappropriation of public money during the last four party alliance regime. He was also accused of importing of two tax-free cars in the last two terms of the BNP-led regimes (1991-1996 and 2001-2006). The ACC also grilled Milon on charges of receiving a Rajuk plot showing 'fake' documents on December 6, 2012. Rujuk distributed 20 acres among 55 people 'illegally' during the previous BNP-Jama'at alliance government, ACC sources added.
