ACC grills Mannan Khan, ex-MP Jabbar

Dhaka, Feb 27 (UNB) – The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday interrogated former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan on charge of acquiring wealth illegally.

 

ACC deputy director Nasir Uddin questioned the former junior minister in the Awami League-led government for three hours from 8 am at the ACC head office, said sources at the Commission.

 

Earlier, on February 16, the ACC sent a notice, signed by its deputy director Nasir Uddin, asking Mannan Khan to be present at the Commission head office on February 20. But he did not appear at the ACC office on health ground.

 

As per the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission ahead of the 10th parliamentary polls, the wealth of Mannan Khan was shown as Tk 11 crore as against Tk 10.33 lakh only in 2008.

 

On Thursday, the ACC also questioned Abdul Jabbar, a former Jatiya Party MP (Satkhira-2) on charge of amassing wealth illegally.

 

ACC assistant director Maksudur Rahman grilled Jabbar for an hour from 11 am at the ACC head office.

 

On January 12, 2014, the ACC launched probes into the allegations of unusual wealth accumulation by seven politicians, including Abdul Mannan Khan and Abdul Jabbar.

 

In the first phase, the ACC phase is conducting probes into the graft allegations against former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, former State Minister for Water Resources M Mahbubur Rahman, Enamul Haque, MP, (Rajshahi-4), Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP, (Ukhia-Teknaf), Aslamul Haque, MP, (Dhaka-14), and Abdul Jabbar, former MP (Satkhira-2).
