ACC grills police DIG, approves case against Crossworld men

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) quizzed Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Rafiqul Islam on Sunday for allegedly amassing illegal wealth.
"ACC Deputy Director Md Hamidul Hasan interrogated him for an hour in the afternoon at Segun Bagicha", ACC Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told the FE.
During investigation, ACC found that Rafiqul Islam possessed wealth worth Tk 500 million four houses at Jatrabari and Uttara in Dhaka, two luxury cars, eight bighas of land etc.
He is DIG of Special Branch (Protection) of the Bangladesh Police.
Meanwhile, the commission approved filing of a case against five people for their alleged embezzlement of Tk 25 million from Crossworld Power Limited - the country's leading diesel generator company.
The ACC board gave approval for filing the case in a regular meeting on Sunday against the five for embezzling the amount through cheating.
The persons are: Crossworld Power Limited Senior Executive Md Firoz Molla, former official of billing section Md Shariful Islam, owner of Mintu Electronics Md Mintu, Md Kabirul Islam of Sylhet and Anwar Sadat of Bhairab.
According to ACC officials, the five persons withdrew Tk 25 million from South East Bank's Pragati Sarani branch in connivance with each other and embezzled the money.
ACC decided to file the case against the five after two months of investigation.
