ACC interrogates AL MP Enamul

FE Report | Tuesday, 9 September 2014

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) interrogated Enamul Haque, a Awami League (AL) MP from Rajshahi-4 constituency, over allegations of amassing wealth illegally.
The ACC authority started quizzing Enamul at 9am and it continued until 10:30am, Pranab Kumar Bhattacharia, public relations officer of the anti-corruption body, told the Financial Express.
Ratan Kumar Roy, a deputy director of ACC and also the investigation officer, has recorded his statement at ACC headquarters in the capital on Monday.
After completing the session, Enamul told the journalists: "I do not have any illegal wealth. The statement that I submitted with the Election Commission was authentic. I am sure about it and can challenge the allegations."
Replying to a query, he said: "I was a successful businessperson and then I became a lawmaker. So, the growth of my wealth is normal."
Earlier, on March 9 of the year, ACC served a notice to the lawmaker and his wife Tahura Haque asking them to submit a furnished wealth statement containing lists of their all movable and immovable properties within next seven working days.
However, Enamul ignored the notice and sought extension of time. The ACC later extended the deadline until March 31, though Enamul failed to file the statement again.
Later, on April 1, Enamul submitted the statement to ACC, but the commission denied to receive the wealth statement as the deadline expired on March 31.
