ACC interrogates wife of Khandaker Mosharraf

FE Report | Wednesday, 9 April 2014

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) interrogated Tuesday wife of BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain in connection with a money laundering case.
Deputy Director (DD) of the commission Ahsan Ali quizzed Bilkis Akter Hossain from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at its head office in the capital, ACC officials said.
After facing the interrogation, Ms Hossain denied to make any comment before reporters. However, ACC DD told the reporters that she (Ms Hossain) confessed her involvement with the money laundering.
On February 9, the ACC sued the BNP leader, also former health minister, for laundering over Tk 95.3 million to the United Kingdom.
ACC Director Nasim Anwar filed the case with Ramna Police Station stating that cashing influence of his post, the leader amassed the amount between 2001 and 2006 and deposited the money with a bank account in the UK.
According to the case statement, Mr Hossain illegally acquired over £800,000 (Tk 95,395,381) by abusing his power and concealed information.
The sum has been put in a joint fixed-term deposit account at Lloyds TSB Offshore Private Banking at Guernsey in the UK. The joint account belongs to him and his wife Bilkis Akhter Hossain.
On March 12, police arrested Mr Hossain from Gulshan for his connection in the case.
