ACC launches probes against Anee, others

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday appointed the inquiry officers to conduct the probe into the alleged illegal wealth of the former lawmaker of BNP Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee and former Jamaat lawmaker Mia Golam Parwar.
The appointment was given in a meeting of the commission, ACC officials said.
According to the decision, ACC deputy director Khandakar Khalilur Rahman will conduct the probe into the illegal wealth of Anee, and the probe into the illegal wealth of Parwar will be launched by another deputy director of the commission Khalil Uddin Patwary.
On Wednesday last, the ACC took a decision to launch the probe against BNP's student affairs secretary Anee and Khulna City Jamaat chief Parwar on the allegation that they had illegally accumulated wealth.
The commission is now conducting probe into the wealth of at least 12 BNP leaders including two vice-chairmen M Morshed Khan and Sadek Hossain Khoka, standing committee member Moudud Ahmed and former state minister of education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon.
The commission has recently started inquiry against seven ruling party people who were ministers and lawmakers in the tenure of the immediate-past Awami League-led government after the wealth statements they submitted to the Election Commission for contesting the national elections of January 5 had showed an unusual increase in their wealth in the past five years.
They are former health minister AFM Ruhal Haque, former state minister for housing and public works Abdul Mannan Khan, former state minister for water resources Mahbubur Rahman, lawmakers of Cox's Bazar-4 Abdur Rahman Badi, Dhaka-14 Aslamul Haque Aslam, Rajshahi-4 (Bagmara) Enamul Haque and Satkhira-2 Abdul Jabbar.
The commission also assigned its deputy director Abdus Sattar to inquire the illegal wealth of businessman Rezabuddawla Chowdhury, the ACC officials said.
