The Anti-Corruption Com-mission (ACC) is likely to begin serving notices today (Thursday) to another 12 corruption suspects, mostly politicians like Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim and Lutfozzaman Babar, to submit their wealth statements within seven working days, reports UNB.
"The Commission has already approved issuance of the notices to the 12 individuals…The notices are ready…Just waiting to be signed. It's most likely that the notices will be delivered from tomorrow," a well-informed source said Wednesday.
They will be issued summons under Section 26 (1) of the ACC Act, 2004 and Section 17 of the ACC Rules, 2007. Under these provisions, the physical appearance of a summoned individual is not mandatory.
Apart from the three, the other suspects who are going to be served summons are Barisal City Corporation mayor Mujibur Rahman Sarwar (BNP), former State Minister for Power Rafiqul Islam (AL), former State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman Patal (BNP), former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia's assignment officer Firoj Mahmud Iqbal, former AL MP Noor E Alam Chowdhury, former chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah's (AL) son Moeed Abdullah, CBA leader Abul Kalam Azad, former state minister Kamrul Islam's son Tanvirul Islam and Masudur Rahman.
It was learnt that these individuals, many of whom are already in jail, are on the 'third list' containing 54 corruption suspects.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that as of Wednesday last, the ACC could not complete delivering notices to 17 corruption suspects, including former ministers Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Barrister Aminul Haque.
The Commission Tuesday started delivering notices to these individuals, directing them to submit their wealth statements within seven working days.
However, former Awami League MP Rafiqul Anwar alias 'Sona Rafiq' submitted his wealth statement Wednesday showing that he and his family possess wealth worth about Tk 110 million (11 crore.)
On June 21, the anti-graft watchdog summoned the former lawmaker from Chittagong to come up with his asset account.
Of the wealth, the value of immovable property is Tk 48.5 million and the moveable property is worth Tk 60.2 million.
Meanwhile, the ACC was issued an order Wednesday to investigate the case filed against detained Liberal Democratic Party presidium member Redwan Ahmed. A misappropriation case of Tk 5.0 million (50 lakh) was filed with Ramna police station on February 15.
