The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the bail granted by the High Court to Awami League MP Abdur Rahman Bodi in a case filed on charge of accumulating wealth illegally. The chamber court of the Appellate Division is likely to hear the petition on Wednesday, said ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan. On Monday, an HC bench comprising Justice Syed AB Mahmudul Huq and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted an interim bail for 6 months to Bodi in the graft case. On October 12, a Dhaka court sent Bodi to jail rejecting his bail petition when he surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case. A Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court also on Oct 16 denied bail to Bodi after hearing a petition filed challenging the bail rejection by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Meanwhile, the ACC on Oct 19 filed a petition with the court seeking a 10-day remand for Bodi in the case. The court is yet to hear the petition. On Aug 21, the ACC filed the case with Ramna Police Station accusing AL MP from Cox’s Bazar-4 constituency (Teknaf-Ukhia), of amassing wealth illegally, according to a news agency.
