ACC nab DIG (Prisons) Bazlur Rashid over illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday arrested Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Prisons Bazlur Rashid for alleged accumulation of wealth from illegal sources.
Before the arrest, ACC officials on the day interrogated Mr Rashid and his wife Razzakun Nahar at the commission headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha over graft allegations.
Confirming the arrest, ACC Secretary Muhammad Dilwar Bakht said Mr Rashid accumulated huge amount of money through bribery and other irregularities.
He owns an apartment worth of Tk 30.8 million in the city's Siddheswari area which was allegedly bought with illegal money, he added.
There are also charges against the police official of sending the illegally earned money through courier service to his wife.
The ACC officials found proof of illegal transactions of money via courier service during the interrogation.
The commission filed a case in this regard with its integrated district office-1 in Dhaka and then arrested the policeman.
