ACC notice on Hasina illegal: HC

Thursday, 22 November 2007

The High Court (HC) Wednesday ruled illegal the notice the Anticorruption Commission (ACC) had served on detained former prime minister Sheikh Hasina for accounts of her assets, reports bdnews24.com.
The bench of justices Shah Abu Nayeem Mominur Rahman and Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury issued the verdict after hearing the writ petition Hasina had filed challenging the legality of the notice.
The antigraft watchdog served the Awami League (AL) chief with the notice on July 17, a day after security forces arrested her.
Another report adds: A Dhaka court Wednesday set November 28 to frame charges against Hasina, her sister Sheikh Rehana and AL leader Sheikh Fazlul Karim Selim in an extortion case filed by a businessman.
The charge-framing will set off the trial of the three.
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Azizul Haque set the date and ordered that Hasina and Selim be produced in court on that day.
Rehana was shown as a fugitive in the case charge sheet.
Azam Jahangir Chowdhury, managing director of Eastcoast Trading, filed a Tk 29.9 million extortion case on June 13 with Gulshan Police Station.
