ACC official quizzes ex-state minister\\\'s APS

FE Report | Wednesday, 19 February 2014

The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) Tuesday quizzed Soumendra Lal Chandra Shailel, the former assistant personal secretary (APS) of ex-State Minister for Religious Affairs Advocate M Shahjahan Miah for alleged accumulation of illegal wealth.
Deputy Director (DD) of the Commission Ahsan Ali interrogated him from 10 am to 1 pm at the ACC head office in the city, the anti-graft body officials told the FE.
Sources said the ACC received graft allegation that Mr Shailel amassed wealth worth about Tk 500 million illegally from various sources especially from Hajj agencies using his designation in the last five years.
On February 5 last, the ACC appointed DD Ahsan Ali as the inquiry officer to investigate the allegations against Shailel.
ACC officials further said they also found the allegation that Mr Shailel siphoned off money abroad to conceal his actual wealth, built 5-storied building in Patuakhali, and bought a personal car to be true.
About the laundering of money, the Commission officials said as most of the family members of Mr Shailel are living in India, the allegation could be authentic.
Mr Shailel, however, denied his involvement in any corruption and said he built his house by taking loan from bank, said the ACC officials.
