ACC seeks graft info under Whistleblower Protection Act
Wednesday, 28 December 2011
The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) urged government employees to provide graft related information of their respective offices under the newly enacted Whistleblower Protection Act-2011 that promises to conceal information providers identities, reports BSS.
"The act will protect them (those who provide graft information) of different directorates, departments and ministries . . . this law helps to combat institutional corruptions, especially big corruptions," ACC Chairman Ghulam Raman said Tuesday.
He also urged the government officials to send corruption related information of their organisations to ACC headquarters at 1 Segunbagicha, Dhaka-1000 by post or provide the information being physically present there.
Chairman Rahman expressed the hope that the law would help graft watchdog to act on the basis of specific information instead of assumed ones and the inflow of accurate information about graft to the Commission will be increased by many.
The law will help to catch the corrupt elements in the government organisations as well as to find out the loopholes in the organisations that encourage corruption, the ACC chief also said.
Mr Rahman also expressed the hope that corruption in the service sectors will be decreased substantially with implementation of the law.
In accordance with the law, no civil or criminal case can be filed against the person, who provide correct information and they even cannot be made witness to any case.
