The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought information from the Securities and Exchange Commission about the investments made by detained former minister Nazmul Huda, ward commissioner Mirza Ekramul Hossain alias Mirza Khokon and their family members in the country's two bourses.
The members of Nazmul Huda's family are his wife Sigma Huda, daughters Antara Selima Huda and Srabonti Amina Huda while the members of Mirza Khokon's family are his wife Masuda Ekram, daughters Kayanat Mirza Shasha and Kashfa Mirza Vasha and his nephew Mirza Arafat Abbas Apon, son of Mirza Abbas.
"We're asked to provide the information by August 23 to the SEC office to facilitate submission of the information to the ACC at the earliest," said a source.
He said the SEC issued letters to the managing directors of all merchant banks and members of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) on August 15 seeking the information on an urgent basis.
"We've been urged to provide the information if there is any transaction or investment made by those persons in debentures or shares of any company of the DSE and the CSE," the source added.
He further said they were also asked to mention the amounts of investment in share or debenture and also mention the quantities.
However, the ACC mentioned that the information was required to conduct investigation into the cases lodged against the persons.
"Till this evening (Thursday), we've not received any information about their investment," one source said, when asked.
Sources close to some merchant banks and members of the DSE and the CSE acknowledged receipt of the letter and said they have asked their branches to provide information in this connection at the earliest.
