ACC serves notices to Khaleda, Hasina to submit wealth statements

Wednesday, 18 July 2007

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Tuesday served notices upon former Prime Ministers Khaleda Zia and Sheikh Hasina to submit their wealth statements within seven working days, reports UNB
The decision was taken at a meeting of the Commission in the morning. "This is a routine work of the Commission," ACC secretary Mokhles Ur Rahman said.
Sheikh Hasina has been served the notice through the jail authorities while the notice to Khaleda was sent to her Mainul Road residence at Dhaka Cantonment.
They will have to submit their wealth statements under section 26 (1) of the ACC Act, 2004 and section 17 of ACC Rules, 2007.
Under the provision of the law, physical presence is not mandatory for submitting the statements. They can submit the statements through their representatives.
Subject to any valid reason, the ACC may extend the time limit by another seven working days if they fail to submit the statements within the first seven days.
