ACC sues 10 bureaucrats

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Wednesday sued a band of 10 bureaucrats, including former power ministry secretary ANH Akhter Hossain, on graft charges, reports UNB.
Deputy Director of the anti-graft watchdog body Mahbubul Alam filed a case against them with Shahbagh police station at 6:05 pm under sections 409 and 109 of the Bangladesh Penal Code as well as section 5(2) of the second act of the Corruption Resistance Act 1974.
In the case statement, the ACC alleged that the government officers "gained financial benefit by depriving DESCO employees through cheating and different criminal activities."
The nine other accused in the case are: Joint Secretary of the Power Ministry Mezbaul Islam, Deputy Secretary of the Employment Bureau Nazma Begum, Deputy Secretary of Energy and Mineral Ministry Abdullah Masud, Deputy Secretaries of Power Department Laila Jesmin and Ismat Ara Jahan, Assistant Secretary of the Liberation War Ministry Ali Hossain, Administrative Officer of the Power Department Chanchal Krish Talukder, Managing Director of Dhaka Electric Supply Company Limited and Secretary of the same company HM Nurul Huda.
