ACC sues Apan Jewellers owner over illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed a case against Gulzar Ahmed, owner of Apan Jewellers, for allegedly amassing illegal assets of Tk 305.38 million.
ACC assistant director Mohammad Neyamul Ahsan Gazi filed the case with integrated district office Dhaka-1.
Earlier on July 2 in 2018, Gulzar Ahmed submitted his asset statement to the anti-graft watchdog, ACC sources said citing the First Information Report (FIR).
In the statement, Gulzar said that he had asset worth around Tk 730 million, including immovable asset worth at Tk 225.20 million and movable assets of Tk 508.50 million.
However, the investigation launched by ACC found that Gulzar has movable asset of Tk 524.7 million which is 16.1 million more than the value shown in the statement.
According to the FIR, Gulzar Ahmed has given false information by concealing the information of assets worth over Tk 16.1 million, which is a punishable offence under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
