ACC sues ex-Titas MD, wife over illegal wealth

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday filed two separate cases against former managing director of Titas Gas and his wife over accumulating assets from unknown sources and concealing wealth information.
In the meantime, the Commission also grilled two former and current parliament members individually as part of investigating graft complaints against them.
The ACC filed the case against Engineer Md Nawshad Islam, former managing director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, who is currently a senior general manager attached to the office of Petrobangla Chairman.
According to the case statement, Mr Islam concealed information of assets worth of Tk 7.94 million and accumulated Tk 10.03 million worth of wealth from unidentified sources.
Another case was filed against his wife Razia Nawshad for hiding information of Tk 4.2 million worth of assents in the wealth statement submitted to the anti-graft watchdog.
She also gained wealth of Tk 14.33 million from illegal sources, according to the case statement.
Both the cases were filed by ACC deputy director SMM Akhter Hamid Bhuiyan against the husband and wife with Ramna police station on the day as per sections 26(2) and 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004.
Meanwhile, the Commission interrogated former member of the parliament (MP) for Noakhali-6 constituency Mohammad Ali and current Jatiya Party MP Shariful Islam Jinnah of Bogura-2 on the day over graft allegations.
Separate ACC teams interrogated Mr Ali and Mr Jinnah at the ACC headquarters in the city's Segunbagicha area from 10am to 2:00pm, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee.
There are allegations of misuse of power, embezzling funds from government project and accumulating wealth from unknown sources against Mr Ali, according to ACC sources.
He was elected member of parliament in 1986 with Jatiya Party ticket and later as an independent contestant in the 8th general election in 2001 from Noakhali-6 constituency.
Currently, his wife Ayesha Ferdous is the parliament member of the same constituency from Awami League.
In the meantime, ACC quizzed incumbent Jatiya Party MP for Bogura-2 constituency Mr Jinnah over allegation of amassing wealth from unidentified sources.
